Hello, and thank you for purchasing "The Lost Haçienda". A few rules here to help you with your game.

1: DO NOT close the page that contains the game. This will log you out completely and you will be taken back to the start. You can move through the quest by pressing next and previous however do not close the page it is on. You can swap tabs and switch pages with no problems. 

2: You will have to solve a series of clues and puzzles to work through the game. Please note; there are hints you can ask for to give you a nudge what to do however if you are well and truly stuck the downloadable answer sheet with the correct answers was emailed to you on purchase. (Only look if you are in desperate need - no peeking). The answers may be drop down answers, multiple choice or require you to write in a word/letters or numbers. Just make sure to always check the spelling.

3. You can go forward and backwards in between pages so you can check on orientation and where you have been.

4. If you click on an image to open it, it will open in a new tab. When you are completed it and want to shut it down just make sure you do not close the original page. You could also just zoom in on the picture instead of opening it. 

5. You will also learn lots of interesting facts about Manchester as you progress through. Just make sure to tick the box after the fact to allow you to continue.

6: There is absolutely no time limit, so feel free to pop into any bars/pubs or shops that you want on your way around; sampling the delights that Manchester has to offer.

Welcome everyone, to this wonderful Manchester Quest.  We need your help. 

In 1997, the legendary Haçienda nightclub in Manchester shut its doors for the last time. Or did it?

There have been rumours since then of a Haçienda club, which opens to only a special selection of people once in a blue moon. You have been investigating this for years, when you think you have found one of the Haçienda club promoters.

Can you track his movements to see if you can gain access to the club? And recreate one of the fabled nights from yesteryears. Got what it takes? Good.

Once you are at your start point of the Manchester Town hall continue with your quest.

After years of tracing this promoter you have been led here. To the Town hall. As you were following him you see him quickly dash off, leaving behind his bag on the floor, alongside a crumpled-up piece of paper.  His bag has a lock attached to it, but you think the paper must be a clue to help.

To open your first clue you will have to find four numbers that you can see as you look out from the Town Hall? Can you spot them written on a wall to get your started. 

The Town Hall bells were cast by John Taylor & Co, a renowned firm responsible for most of the UK's heaviest bells, including the one hung at St Paul's Cathedral.  Experts consider the Town Hall's bells to be among the very best sets of English-hung bells in the world.

Manchester Evening News readers chose the Town Hall as their favourite building in Greater Manchester in 2012. Around 1,000 voters awarded the Town Hall an average rating of 9/10.

Plans to demolish the Town Hall were floated in the 1940s, as planners felt that the 'sooty' building was no longer 'fit for purpose'.  They proposed replacing it with a new Town Hall in the Art Deco style.  Fortunately, the idea was eventually scrapped.

The paper reads out a poem…..but what can it mean? Can you work it out?

The World Pie Eating Championships are held in Wigan every year and contestants from all over compete to eat a meat and potato pie in the fastest possible time. The current record is 38 seconds.

Excellent, you enter the code into the briefcase, and it pings open. On the top are a set of directions which say:

Follow the path anti-clockwise (to the right as you look at the Town Hall) until your reach Mount Street on your right-hand side. Continue onto Mount Street and follow the circular building on your left until you find a Statue on the corner.

You see the producer gazing at the statue and etching a date into it…..Can you find the number he has just written?

Yes, 1907, that surely has to mean something? Keep it safe for now and remember it for later.

You see him dash round the library, so follow him round to the left and around to the main Entrance. You are looking at the pictures you found in the briefcase, but they do not match up somehow? Can you put the images in a “New Order” to make them right?

Manchester (Salford) was the birthplace of vegetarianism over 200 years ago. Reverend William Cowherd preached about the moral virtues of a vegetarian diet in a small chapel and his followers went on to form the Vegetarian Society.

Yes, that looks much better. You find his diary which tells you he is next due to have a meeting with a music producer at a “Royal Theatre”.  You follow the directions which takes you clockwise back on yourself until you find the main road/ A34, finding the Midland Hotel on your left. You continue onto Peter Street safely crossing at the lights. You keep walking until you spot a Theatre on your left, with a famous sculpture in front of it. Can you spot the date on the Royale to open up your next puzzle?

The sculpture in front of the Theatre is that of the World Famous Bard William Shakespeare.

Can you solve the puzzle to progress?

Just as you are about to enter you see the police burst in, and the promotor being rushed away in handcuffs – clearly, they knew what he had planned tonight. But this could be your chance to save the day and ensure the club night continues. You follow the police down in the direction you were travelling and then turn right onto Southmill Street. Keep walking until you see the old police station on your left.

You keenly watch through the windows as they take him room to room. Enter the word that comes before Police on the gates to open your next clue.

This building, presenting a grand Portland stone front to Southmill Street, was built in the 1930s as the headquarters of the city police.  An article on the Greater Manchester Police website, dated August 1, 2014, explains that when the police moved into this building it was state of the art at the time, however by 2014 it was not fit for modern policing and over the previous few years the building had been slowly decommissioned as police moved to the new divisional headquarters in Newton Heath. Sadly the Station closed permanently once the last of the teams moved out.

Can you work out the three rooms he ended up in? Can you follow his trail? You will end up landing on 3 numbers to find your code.

You tracked his movements, so you now know which room he is being kept in. Pretending to be his solicitor you follow the corridor to his room. Testing your luck, you open the door however he has been moved on. You do however find a set of keys on the floor…. Had he left them behind? There is also a scribbled note on the desk. Opera. You immediately know where to go.

You head back the way you came to Peter Street and turn right onto it. Heading down Peter Street you pass the Great Northern Railway Warehouse on your left. You continue and cross Deansgate, following the road straight onto Quay Street. Keep walking until you find the Manchester Opera house on your right.

However something appears different? What is it?

Opening in 1912, The Opera House hosted the 1958 European premiere of West Side Story and the British regional premiere of Andrew Lloyd Webber's musical The Phantom of the Opera with a production that opened in 1993 and ran to 1995, an exceptional run for a regional production.

You enter the building, and you are greeted by a worker. “I’m here about the event tonight, I’m helping set it up” You say hopefully. The man nods and smiles “Excellent, you have been sent by John, have you? I’m a little busy right now but will meet you in the gardens very soon…if you know what I mean” He says before walking off.

You rack your brains; you can only think of one place that can be. You continue down Quay Street, safely crossing over Byrom Street and then take the next left onto Lower Byrom Street. Keep walking to the very end of the street, past the S & I museum. You then turn left onto Liverpool Road before seeing the park appear on your right hand side. You enter it, however to progress you will need to find the statue of 3 animals in the park. What are they?

In 1948 Manchester University professors developed the first computer to have a stored programme and memory. They even nicknamed it ‘baby’.

You see the man again there. He stops, turns around and stares at you, you can see he does not yet trust you. “If you really have been sent, then you will easily know this question. In which order did these bands play at the Haçienda?” You rack your brains, trying to recall the memories from your head, can you place them correctly? (use the letters before then to denote the order e.g ABCD or DCBA

“Well done, you certainly know your stuff, I didn’t think you would get that one. Ok then, so you aren’t a fools gold. I’ll give you the address…well part of it. You will have to find the first street of Manchester, and turn away from it….good luck” And with that he quickly walks away.

You continue forward onto Liverpool Road. In a daze you turn left, your mind racing through what that could mean. When you reach Deansgate you turn right again….you have a sense this is the right direction. You walk down until you can see Deansgate Station….left or right? But which way.

Type in the name of the original station that you can see above Deansgate to progress.

The Train Station changed its name to its current title on the 3^rd May 1971. It hosts nearly half a million passengers each year through its terminal

Left. Lets go for it. When you reach the station, you turn left onto Whitworth Street West. You keep walking down until it comes to you, you smile as you see the archway that reads “First Street” and turn left onto the canal, making sure to stay safe and away from the waters edge.

You can hear a bit of noise now….and your excitement builds. You turn left towards the noise and start to see the gated artwork that are fixed to the wall, telling a story through the ages of this wonderful club.

You see a keypad on the wall…. but what to put in? You remember the code you found before. You enter it.
