Hello, and thank you for purchasing "The Search for Tizzie Whizie".

Before you begin, a few rules here to help you with your game.

1: DO NOT close the page that contains the game. This will log you out completely and you will be taken back to the start. You can move through the quest by pressing next and previous however do not close the page it is on. You can swap tabs and switch pages with no problems. 

2: You will have to solve a series of clues and puzzles to work through the game. Please note; there are hints you can ask for to give you a nudge what to do however if you are well and truly stuck the downloadable answer sheet with the correct answers was emailed to you on purchase. (Only look if you are in desperate need - no peeking). The answers may be drop down answers, multiple choice or require you to write in a word/letters or numbers. Just make sure to always check the spelling.

3. You can go forward and backwards in between pages so you can check on orientation and where you have been.

4. If you click on an image to open it, it will open in a new tab. When you are completed it and want to shut it down just make sure you do not close the original page. You could also just zoom in on the picture instead of opening it. 

5. You will also learn lots of interesting facts about The Lake District as you progress through. Just make sure to tick the box after the fact to allow you to continue.

6: There is absolutely no time limit, so feel free to pop into any bars/pubs or shops that you want on your way around; sampling the delights that Bowness and Windermere has to offer.

The Lake District took over 2 million years of glaciations to create

Forming a roughly circular upland massif with a radial pattern of deep valleys, the geological character of the Lake District has evolved through repeated glaciations over the last 2 million years.

Well done team, you have solved the first clue, now return to the road that you have walked up and walk back down Biskey Howe road, heading down towards the main road. Just after you have walked past Crag walk, the ground will level and now keep an eye out for your next clue from the words below.

              “Tizzie liked to make friends, and was always happy for a chat.

He found on this road a puddling lodge, and an animal within that.

The animal will give you the first part of your clue,

However you will have to look closer to know next what to do,

Somewhere on the road, look right and look left

You will see a date on a house, can you find it as you pass

Write down the animal then then number to get the correct code;

Then travel on quickly, continuing down the road”

William Wordsworth and the Lake Poets inspired a love of nature.

Before the 19th Century, the more remote areas of Britain such as the Lake District were viewed as dangerous.

Through poetry, Wordsworth helped changed forever the perceptions of mankind’s relationship with nature.

Publishing his “Guide to Lakes” in 1810, William Wordsworth may have been completely unaware of the profound changes he was helping to bring about.

Fuelling his vivid imagination, nature had always been important to Wordsworth.

He could see how “England’s green and pleasant land” and the working poor were being exploited by industrialists, and believed that a love of nature would lead naturally to a love of mankind.

Other famous poets moved to live or spend time in the Lake District, becoming known collectively as the Lake Poets.

Turn right at the end of the road onto Lake Road, and continue along this road for your next clue.

“Merrily Tizzie went, walking along, singing and squeaking a happy little song.

Past meadow beck he quickly sped, losing track of where he was going in his head

He felt he was lost, not knowing what to do, he went to the police station, as they always knew,

The local area, the roads and where he should head

He found a lion to help him, but someone else answered instead”

Can you find the other animal that helped Tizzie on his journey?

The Lake District is the most visited National Park in the UK.

With 16.4 million visitors a year, 24 million tourist days, and a yearly visitor spent of £1.2 billion, the Lake District is by far the most popular national park in the UK—almost twice as popular as the Yorkshire Dales (take that Yorkshire)

Regarded as one of the best places to eat in Britain, the Lake District has four Michelin Star restaurants: L’Enclume, The Samling in Ambleside, The Forest Side and Gilpin Hotel.

And if that wasn’t enough, Cumbria has more microbreweries than any other county in Britain

Continue along Lake road, in the direction you were heading.  Keep going until you see a watery globe across from Queens drive and find a good spot for sitting.  Tizzie was tired on his journey and needed a good rest at this point, and a lovely beetle sandwich.  As he ate he noticed a tricky clue to throw people of his scent. He took away the dates, the little from the large to leave him with a number. Can you work out his maths?

Cumbria is home to six times more sheep than people.

The Lake District is populated by a huge number of sheep — over 3 million in the county of Cumbria.

Whereas Cumbria has a population of close to 500,000, the Lake District itself has only about 45 people per square mile.

Known for being hardy and strong in tough weather conditions, the Herdwick breed thrives in the Lake District and is managed using traditional farming methods.

After tourism, agriculture is the region’s largest source of income, and Herdwick sheep are a huge part of this.

Farmers say the sheep are “heafed to the fell”, meaning that they can be safely left to wander the unfenced terrain.

Able to withstand the most appalling weather in winter, the sheep help maintain the “Lake District look” by grazing heather and grass evenly and keeping bracken and scrub at bay.

Now continue along Lake Road, keeping the road to your left and aim for the clock tower in your distant view. If you search the clock tower you will find a date: telling you when the chronicles will be opened. A riddle for you now, so get your brains in gear, for the right answer will help you, and get your ever near,

              To finding Tizzie, on the wonderful day, so think hard and work fast, to help you on your way.

The Lake District is home to some of the rarest wildlife in Britain.

Native to the woodland areas of the Lake District is the beloved British Red Squirrel.

Now an endangered species, the Lake District is one of the few remaining areas of Britain where Red Squirrels can still be found in the wild.

The Lake District National Park is also home to a large variety of other rare or protected species of wildlife including red deer, Peregrine falcons, barn owls, Natterjack toads and Britain’s only nesting pairs of Golden Eagles and Ospreys.

Now you will head back the way you came, however cross the road keeping the road on your left. Keep a lookout for Sherriff’s walk on your right hand side as this will signal your time to turn off.

Now follow the public footway off the road and into the woods. Keep walking into the woods until you find a bench to sit on.

              “Tizzie has journeyed a long way, and his feet began to tire.

He cut down a big tree, to make himself a fire”

There Are A Lot of Footpaths in the lakes.

Walking has always been a popular activity when visiting the Lake District with many routes famously documented by Alfred Wainwright.

It is thanks to our friend Henry Irwin Jenkinson that there is a general right to roam in open country and additionally, there are 1,342 miles of footpath within the National Park – equivalent to almost 360,000 unwound Cumberland sausages laid end to end!

Now quickly…..if you keep going you are very close to Tizzie.

Follow the river until you can see it split into two.

Wait here….Tizzie is close but you have one more problem to solve.

              “The stories go, that from days of old,

              You can only hear Tizzie, with your ear to the ground,

 So stay very quiet, and have a listen now

What can you hear, as you ear listens around”

Pencils Were Invented in the Lake District.

The graphite mine at Seathwaite, first discovered in the 1550s, provided the natural resource required to make the very first pencil and the history of this humble item of stationery is charted at the Pencil Museum in Keswick.
