Hello, and thank you for purchasing "The Zombies are here...". A few rules here to help you with your game.

1: DO NOT close the page that contains the game. This will log you out completely and you will be taken back to the start. You can move through the quest by pressing next and previous however do not close the page it is on. You can swap tabs and switch pages with no problems. 

2: You will have to solve a series of clues and puzzles to work through the game. Please note; there are hints you can ask for to give you a nudge what to do however if you are well and truly stuck the downloadable answer sheet with the correct answers was emailed to you on purchase. (Only look if you are in desperate need - no peeking). The answers may be drop down answers, multiple choice or require you to write in a word/letters or numbers. Just make sure to always check the spelling.

3. You can go forward and backwards in between pages so you can check on orientation and where you have been.

4. If you click on an image to open it, it will open in a new tab. When you are completed it and want to shut it down just make sure you do not close the original page. You could also just zoom in on the picture instead of opening it. 

5. You will also learn lots of interesting facts about York as you progress through. Just make sure to tick the box after the fact to allow you to continue.

6: There is absolutely no time limit, so feel free to pop into any bars/pubs or shops that you want on your way around; sampling the delights that York has to offer. 

7. Lastly; have fun and good luck.

The unthinkable has happened. A zombie apocalypse has taken over the world. With rumours of it spreading to every continent this disease is deadly and transmissible. There are a few human strongholds left and due to the city walls already part functioning York has been able to keep the wave of evil at bay. However time is running short, the the hoards of zombies are mounting. A devout team of scientists have been working towards are cure, to protect them however they have been locked into a room with no access in. Your team is the only team with a code for access, and you have had word they have found the cure. You will need to travel across York, assisting the resistance to find the scientists and locate the cure. 

Good luck team. When  you have reached your start point of the York Minster (YO1 7HH) press ready.

Your radio crackles

"Boss, we have a code green. I repeat a code green. The cure is nearly there. I repeat code green".

You look at your team with a smile. "We made it" You say as you embrace them with a hug. 

The the radio crackles again.

"Code red. Code red. The MB wall is nearly breached. Need assistance. Code red".

Your celebrations are cut to pieces as you immediately know you have to help. But where to go?

To progress with your quest you will need to find a code to go forward. 

Find the name of a great Roman emperor and then add a number to the end of his name. This number will be found on a red door facing him.

The Minster is is the only UK cathedral to put mistletoe on the high altar.

This ancient use of mistletoe is connected to Britain’s druid past, which was particularly strong in the north of England. The mistletoe, which grows on lime, poplar, apple and hawthorn trees, was held in high regard by the Druids, who believed it warded off evil spirits and represented friendship.

Quick....time is of the essence. Facing the minster you turn right onto Minster Yard, following the path anticlockwise around the Minster. Then turn right when you reach College Street. 

Underneath the sign for York Minster Conference & Banqueting Centre you will see a large brown wooden door. To progress with your quest can you find the small animal engraved into the door?

York Minster is the largest Gothic Cathedral in Northern Europe, and contains more medieval stained glass than any other cathedral in Britain and contains glass dating back to 1150.

Marvellous. Well found. Quickly now. Continue to the end of College Street then take a left onto Goodramgate. Follow it until you reach one of the entrances to the City - Monk Bar. 

"MB; the code name for Monk Bar - you have rushed there quickly and see the broad doors caving in the middle. You and your friends rush forward, and help with all your might to push the doors shut. You can hear the screaming of the zombies outside of the gate."



You shout to the others to fetch wood to help support the door whilst comrades run to the roof with weapons to help relieve the stem of the invaders. The noises start to hush as more and more zombies are 'dispersed'. You now think it is safe to progress to the research team. 

To continue forwards, head out of the gate and look up, can you see above the blue and red crest at the top of the bar. Which golden animal sits on top?

"Right team. Monk bar is secured. Let's get that antidote."

The scientists have been working in a secret location. You have the code but have to work out where they are by contacting various people. The first is hidden in a location on a street that isn't named. 

You return the way you came, back up Goodramgate, Continuing left onto Goodramgate as it dissects. Turn left onto Kings Square, then cross over and turn right (just past the York Chocolate Story) and then take a left onto the Shambles. 

To meet your first person you will need to keep a look out for a creature climbing up the walls on one of the shops to the right. What animal do you find?

The Archbishop of York from 1724 to 1743, Lancelot Blackburne, was a pirate of the Caribbean in his younger days and greatly upset his wife by asking his mistress to move in with them!

Your team have now found the location of the first person. He hands you a bit of paper to work out the first number on it. He tells you "Follow green".

You will need to work it out and keep it safe for this will be the first number of the code you will need later on to let the scientists free. 



He also tells you where to find the next scientist. 

Click ready when you are set to continue. 

The Bar Convent hosts an exhibition which included the severed hand of Margaret Clitheroe, a catholic martyr and saint whose shrine is housed in the Shambles.

You unfold the directions the man gave you. 

"Follow me to find the next one, but do act quick before I am gone.
You have one number, but you will need many more; An ironmonger is who you are looking for."

You now follow the directions given, down the path down to the end of the Shambles, away from the way you came, then turning left onto Pavement and then right onto Fossgate. Continue down Fossgate, The street now eerily quiet in the heart of the City. you cross over the bridge; filled with bodies of the dead....you move on quickly. 

As you reach the end you turn right, but to find your next clue can you find the Ironmonger F.R ?....what is his surname?

You now meet your next contact. He steps out of his workshop, covered in black protective equipment...he looks a dangerous man, passing you again a note with a clue to solve and a set of directions. "Good luck" are his solitary words as he returns to make more weapons for the fight. 

You quickly take a look at the clue, keeping it safe for later.

The Domesday Book of 1086 mentions The Shambles as a shopping street. It is believed to be the oldest in Europe.

You now have found two clues. You know there are two more to go. You follow the directions given.

Walking from Fossgate turn right onto Mechantgate and then right again onto Piccadilly. Just as you have crossed the bridge you will need to turn left down an off road, underneath a walkway. Follow the walk way and the signs that lead you to the York Castle Museum, which will entail following the road round to the left past the car park. You will see the large Cliffords Tower looking over you as you stop to work out your next clue.

Once at the Museum, you will have a choice of three buildings. Find the one with a lion on top and tell me which creature sits on the roof near him.

York’s ancient walls are three miles long – making them the longest city walls in England – and enclose an area of about 263 acres.

You bang on the doors.....again and again but no one answers. You spot a note attached under the door. 

"I have moved for safety. Follow me to the Chambers".  You think you know where to go.

You travel away from the museum, through the car park keeping Clifford's Tower on your left hand side. Keep walking until your find Castlegate. Walk down Castlegate back to the Centre until you can turn right onto Coppergate. The directions tell you to look out for Colby Chambers. Can you find the plaque and find the year they were erected to proceed?

York’s famous National Railway Museum houses the only Japanese Bullet Train outside of Japan.

You knock on the door to the chambers. 

An elderly woman appears. She asks you to name the creature on top of the museum. You tell her Unicorn. She nods and smiles as she passes you two more items. A clue and set of directions. 

You take a look at the clue, and keep it safe, before following on with the directions. 

York is the birthplace of one of the most infamous men ever to live: Guy Fawkes – sometimes described as "the last man to enter Parliament with honest intentions”. 

Also, another fiend: highwayman, Dick Turpin, spent his last night in a York cell in what is now the Castle Museum. He was hanged in 1739.

"Three down team, well done" You look around. You know surrounding the whole City right now are an ever growing number of zombies. You have to find the cure soon. Before it is too late.  Whenever you close your eyes you can hear the cries of your friends. It's something that never leaves you. 



To continue with your quest continue up Coppergate turning left just before All Saints Church, then right onto High Ousegate.

Turn left onto Parliament Street, and continue it right down until you come across Betty's tea room. You know your last meet will be there. 

To open up your next page find the green plaque nearby and spot the difference with the picture below. 

A little red devil sits chained outside 33 Stonegate, staring benevolently at passers by!  It is not, however, a sign of demonic antics within, it is actually the traditional symbol for a printers. Be careful though, it is supposed to be unlucky to look into his eyes!

Before you even manage to knock on the door a piece of paper slides from underneath it. 

Clearly messages have been sent. Your radio crackles;

"Defence down, I repeat defence down. They have broken through the wall South of the River; estimated time of arrival to the centre is 10 mins. You must be quick!!" 

Then radio silence.

You quickly look to solve the last puzzle then follow the directions to your final location.

Which number replaces the question mark?

In 2002, the International Ghost Research Foundation declared that York is the most haunted city in Europe.

You now have all four clues...of which you pray you have worked them all out. 

You turn onto Stonegate and rush towards the end of the Street, before turning left onto High Petergate. You follow the path round to the front of the Minster to the right onto Precentor's Court.  You can see the locked gates with the coat of arms around them! This is where the scientists are. 

To progress to your final page: what sits above the keys on the coat of arms to the right of the entrance?

You have got the four clues and you should now have figured out a 5 digit code from them. 

You can see the keypad on the wall and know time is running out. Can you enter the correct code to save the day? Releasing the scientists with the cure for this madness!!!
